Playing in a combined Country Vs City match before a South West Rep game and I had hardly played any footy at all but Peakie put me in to give me a run.
Earliest memory/association with the club:
Turning up to training with my dog Casey, long hair and board shorts and jogging a few laps before everyone arrived for training.
Additional Comments (Eg. Fondest memory, favourite character around the club, most despised opposition, etc):
Very honest and funny group of men, Banger Francis, Staff, Watto, Lew and Pancho, Sheriff and many more who all gave what they had, the reason for our success. Despised and respected Donnybrook - if they didn't beat you they'd belt you.
"I was extremely surprised when I arrived at training to see the Clubrooms and facilities. They were exceptional to what I was used to. I had played in the Bendigo League in Victoria, a top 3 Country League and they had a keg in the change rooms after the showers. The football on field was better but off field there was no comparison South Bunbury ruled.
The amount of mileage the rumour that Bunbury told me to "Get Lost" - not true. I went to watch Bunbury play Souths on my first weekend in town and as soon as I arrived at the gate and saw the South Melbourne colours I knew I was going to play there. They are the same colours as my home town Avenel.
Impressive, I read the other day South have 45 (I think) Premierships the most in Australia." |
