Post South Bunbury Life:
Busy in the workplace, interests include gardening, fishing, crabbing, photography and die-cast model collecting which keeps me very busy.
Best South Player and Coach you’ve seen:
Players - Alan Prosser, (Best kicks) Ted Hosking, Vic Peos
Coach - Gerard McNeill
Most memorable incident/experience at the club:
Probably when son Darryn received Life-membership, he joined my wife and self as Life-members (only husband, wife, son in the long history of the Club). Also as Chairman of the Centenary Committee in 1997, a year of celebrations.
Earliest memory/association with the club:
Remember the day when our family moved to Carey Park from Glen Iris and I used to see this team playing at the Forrest Oval in red and white.
Additional Comments (Eg. Fondest memory, favourite character around the club, most despised opposition, etc):
My fondest memories are of Saturday lunchtime at the Club, best entertainment in Bunbury my father (Soup bones), Bluey Stafford and Jock Whitelaw and their weekly pool challenge. Sadly all have now left us. Despised opposition - hate em all. Worst club in the league: B.C.D.
Other family members who have/had some association with South Bunbury Football Club:
Daughter, Natalie, brother-in-laws, Colin Murphy, Tommy Murphy and Joe Coenen, sister-in-laws, Eliane Zera, Marie Coenen, Margaret Murphy, Donnette Murphy along with wife, Gaye, son, Darryn (who has done 2 stints on the board and period as Vice-president), all were hard working members for me while at the Club. Also father, Ted Wilson and father-in-law, Tom Murphy Snr.
Nephews, Troy Wilson, Kim and Shaun Murphy, Wayne Murphy, Shane Coenen and Craig Zera have all played for South.
"I would like to see more hatred on the footy field, this was apparent in 80's and 90's when we had so much success; need more players in the likes of Chris Raykos etc." |
